HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 936 Commending Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment.

WHEREAS, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment, an organization that works to protect natural resources and promote sustainable lifestyles in Arlington County, celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2013; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1978 as part of the national Keep America Beautiful Campaign, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment began serving the community through litter control initiatives and later expanded to include more comprehensive programs; and

WHEREAS, today, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment is made up of over 350 dedicated members and 600 generous volunteers contributing over 3,200 hours of service to the community each year; and

WHEREAS, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment provides environmental education, advocates for sustainable lifestyles, and works with the community to protect and restore the environment by cleaning up streams, removing invasive plants, marking storm drains, and developing wildlife habitats; and

WHEREAS, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment has been extremely successful in its missions; it has removed hundreds of bags of litter from Arlington’s parks, streams, and streets each year, worked to improve energy efficiency in low-income apartments, and planted nearly 1,000 trees in neighborhoods throughout Arlington County; and

WHEREAS, having received numerous local and national awards and accolades, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment is renowned as one of the Commonwealth’s premier environmental stewardship organizations; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment on the occasion of its 35th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the organization’s work to preserve the beauty of Arlington County.
