WHEREAS, Susan E. Mittereder will retire as the legislative director of Fairfax County after more than 30 years of public service; and
WHEREAS, Susan Mittereder served as a legislative liaison for Fairfax County Public Schools, a first grade teacher, and an instructor for gifted elementary school students in Newark and New Castle, Delaware; and
WHEREAS, after beginning her education in a one-room schoolhouse, Susan Mittereder graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, from which she also earned a master’s degree in elementary education, and received her doctorate in education from Virginia Tech; and
WHEREAS, beginning with the 1989 General Assembly Session, Susan Mittereder has ably represented Fairfax County before the legislature, earning the confidence of five different chairs of the Board of Supervisors and six different county executives; and
WHEREAS, Susan Mittereder is highly regarded by her peers, legislators, county staff, and other lobbyists and serves as a mentor to a younger generation of public servants; and
WHEREAS, Susan Mittereder has advocated on behalf of Fairfax County residents on such varied subjects as education, taxation, transportation, human services, and public safety; her advocacy has benefited the county and its residents in countless ways; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Susan E. Mittereder for her outstanding service to the citizens of Fairfax County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Susan E. Mittereder as an expression of the General Assembly’s best wishes for a rewarding retirement.
