WHEREAS, Harry Thomas Kolendrianos was honored by the Kiwanis Club of Danville for his extraordinary service to the City of Danville with its 2012 Citizenship Award; and

WHEREAS, the son of an immigrant, Harry Kolendrianos was born and raised in Danville and graduated from George Washington High School; he earned a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a doctorate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and

WHEREAS, a respected educator, Harry Kolendrianos spent 43 years at Danville Community College, teaching more than 10,000 students before his retirement in 2009; he served in numerous capacities with various professional organizations and on many of the school’s councils and committees throughout his exemplary career; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to the success of Danville Community College and its students, Harry Kolendrianos spent 15 years as the president of the Danville Community College Educational Foundation, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Harry Kolendrianos has taken an active role in community affairs, generously giving of his time and talents to such organizations as the YMCA, YWCA, Humes Memorial Home, United Way, Danville Historical Society, Danville Sports Club, and Danville Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Harry Kolendrianos has also supported the American Red Cross, Danville Development Council, American Heart Association, Danville Bicentennial Committee, Kiwanis Club of Danville, and Danville Public Schools committees; and

WHEREAS, Harry Kolendrianos provides wise guidance and leadership as a current member of the board of directors of Stratford House and House of Hope; and

WHEREAS, Harry Kolendrianos enjoys fellowship and worship at St. Peter’s Greek Orthodox Church and served for six years as treasurer, 15 years as president, and one year as copresident of the parish council; he was appointed archon by the Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America, the highest layman position in the Greek Orthodox Church; and

WHEREAS, a remarkable community servant, Harry Kolendrianos has touched the lives of countless individuals in the Danville community with his generous heart and selfless spirit; and

WHEREAS, Harry Kolendrianos received the prestigious 2012 Citizenship Award from the Kiwanis Club of Danville on December 6, 2012, at a special dinner held at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Harry Thomas Kolendrianos on his selection by the Kiwanis Club of Danville as its 2012 Citizenship Award recipient; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Harry Thomas Kolendrianos as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for his distinguished service to the residents of Danville.
