Commending Michael Suttle III.

WHEREAS, Michael Suttle III of Suttle Motor Corporation in Newport News is the 2013 Time Magazine Quality Automobile Dealer of the Year Nominee for Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Michael Suttle, whose career in the auto industry has spanned almost 50 years, proudly followed his United States Marine Corps veteran father to become the third generation to run his family’s dealership in Newport News with his younger brothers, Gary and Steve; and

WHEREAS, an active and dedicated member of his community, Mike Suttle has supported a wide array of industry and community causes for many years; and

WHEREAS, Mike Suttle has been a leader in the Newport News community, including through his longtime service to the Rotary Club, the Boy Scouts, and the United Way and his financial support of organizations such as the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, A Heart for Orphans, and the Wounded Warrior Fund; and

WHEREAS, a steadfast member of his local community, Mike Suttle has been a leader in his community, serving as the chair of the United Way Campaign in 2001, which raised a record $8.2 million for the Virginia Peninsula, and receiving the 1984 Paul Harris Fellow award from the Rotary Club for raising over $10,000 to stamp out polio; and

WHEREAS, an active and dedicated member of his industry, Mike Suttle has served his customers and his community with a generous spirit and has been an example to dealers in his community and around the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Mike Suttle has earned numerous awards, including the GMC Mark of Excellence, the Cadillac Mark of Excellence, the Buick Mark of Excellence, the GMC Leaders of Distinction, and the Oldsmobile Elite; and

WHEREAS, Mike Suttle has served his industry as an active member of the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association and served for many years as a member of the board of directors; and

WHEREAS, Mike Suttle currently champions the development of a new generation of automotive technicians as the Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) representative on the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association board of directors; and

WHEREAS, through his leadership and in partnership with the Virginia Department of Education, Mike Suttle has made Virginia the premier AYES program in the nation, training more than 400 student interns from 17 school programs in Virginia’s new car dealerships in its current program; and

WHEREAS, Mike Suttle served as chair of the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association in 2006, leading all his fellow franchise dealers as their top elected officer; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Michael Suttle III on his selection as the 2013 Time Magazine Quality Dealer of the Year Nominee for Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Michael Suttle III as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and best wishes.
