2013 SESSION
WHEREAS, God’s Storehouse, a nonprofit food pantry in the City of Danville, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2012; and
WHEREAS, opened in 1987, God’s Storehouse was created by a group of pastors in Pittsylvania County who realized that by pooling the resources of several smaller food pantries, they could establish one large organization that would better serve the community; and
WHEREAS, the original members of God’s Storehouse began with a noble mission to collect food, distribute it to those in need, and promote healthy eating habits in Pittsylvania County and the City of Danville; and
WHEREAS, today, God’s Storehouse has grown considerably, with more than 100 local church congregations, civic groups, schools, businesses, and individuals donating time, money, and supplies; and
WHEREAS, God’s Storehouse actively collects food donations from many sources, including annual food drives, area farmers, and local hunters and gardeners; the support of the community ensures that God’s Storehouse is able to continue to provide hope and a helping hand to those in need; and
WHEREAS, led by executive director Karen Harris, the volunteers and staff of God’s Storehouse provide many services; at the organization’s instructional kitchen, individuals learn how to stretch a food budget, make food last longer, and cook healthy meals; and
WHEREAS, God’s Storehouse celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special food drive on October 27, 2012; the organization exceeded its goal to collect 25,000 pounds of nonperishable food donations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend God’s Storehouse on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to God’s Storehouse as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the organization’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of those in need.
