Commending Glenda Boswell.

WHEREAS, Glenda Boswell, the executive assistant to the president of Danville Community College, retired in 2012 after 50 years of dedicated service to the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Longwood College, Glenda Boswell began her service to the Commonwealth as a public school teacher in Pittsylvania County; and

WHEREAS, after her marriage, Glenda Boswell relocated to Blacksburg with her husband and accepted a secretarial position at Virginia Tech in the College of Business, eventually becoming secretary to the dean; and

WHEREAS, Glenda Boswell then relocated to Danville and continued her work in higher education as an administrative assistant at Averett College; and

WHEREAS, Glenda Boswell joined Danville Community College on July 1, 1968, the day it was created from the merger of the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Danville Technical Institute; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Glenda Boswell served in various capacities, teaching typing as an adjunct instructor, working with off-campus registration in Halifax County, and serving as the affirmative action officer; and

WHEREAS, in 1980 Glenda Boswell became the confidential secretary to the president, a position she held until her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Glenda Boswell served under all four of Danville Community College’s presidents—Dr. Joseph M. Taylor, Dr. Walter S. DeLany, Jr., Dr. Arnold R. Oliver, and Dr. B. Carlyle Ramsey; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career, Glenda Boswell demonstrated great professionalism and commitment to Danville Community College and made many valuable contributions to the institution; and

WHEREAS, in her well-deserved retirement, Glenda Boswell looks forward to spending time with family members and friends, traveling, and playing bridge; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Glenda Boswell for her distinguished 50 years of service to the Commonwealth on the occasion of her retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Glenda Boswell as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration and gratitude for her contributions to education in the Commonwealth.
