13104989DWHEREAS, Tricia Ross of Crozet, a proud Navy spouse and mother of four children, was honored by Military Spouse magazine as the 2012 Navy Spouse of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Tricia Ross, the wife of Lieutenant Jeffrey Ross, has moved six times during their marriage, but has always remained committed to her family, the community where she resides, and the literacy of military children; and
WHEREAS, as the Blue Star Families “Books on Bases” program manager, Tricia Ross has overseen more than 80 events nationwide that have distributed over 24,000 books and impacted the lives of more than 128,000 military children; and
WHEREAS, Tricia Ross desires for all military children to receive the same education as their civilian peers and for their parents to have an opportunity to take an active role in their children’s education; and
WHEREAS, as the 2012 Navy Spouse of the Year, Tricia Ross hopes to provide an increased focus on building better library collections at military installations and Department of Defense schools and in communities with a large military presence; and
WHEREAS, Tricia Ross will also work to raise awareness of the gap in education between military and civilian children; and
WHEREAS, as the 2012 Navy Spouse of the Year, Tricia Ross was one of 30 military spouses invited to Washington, D.C., where she was surprised and honored by Oprah Winfrey as part of the 2012 “Oprah’s Favorite Things” episode; and
WHEREAS, an exemplary role model, Tricia Ross has impacted the lives of countless military children, helping to ensure a brighter future for them as their parents proudly serve and protect the nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Tricia Ross on her selection by Military Spouse magazine as the 2012 Navy Spouse of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tricia Ross as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for her commitment to helping military children and families.
