2013 SESSION
WHEREAS, Robert K. Lehto, a dedicated veteran of the United States Navy and a hardworking public servant in the Town of Occoquan, died on September 30, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Robert Lehto was born in 1928 in Ishpeming, Michigan, where he graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1946; and
WHEREAS, after high school, Robert Lehto joined the United States Navy and served as an enlisted man until 1954 when he became an officer and an antisubmarine warfare pilot; he retired from active duty in 1967; and
WHEREAS, while serving in the United States Navy, Robert Lehto attended college, graduating summa cum laude from Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in 1963 and earning a master’s degree from the University of Maryland in 1966; and
WHEREAS, in civilian life, Robert Lehto continued to serve his country, working in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, the Bureau of Naval Personnel, and the Senior Executive Service until 1985; and
WHEREAS, from 1984 to 1990, Robert Lehto also devoted several years of outstanding service to his community as a member of the Occoquan Town Council; and
WHEREAS, Robert Lehto worked to safeguard the rich history of the Town of Occoquan as a member of the Planning Commission and a former president of Historic Occoquan, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Robert Lehto selflessly dedicated his life to serving the people of the United States, the Commonwealth, and the Town of Occoquan; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife, Mildred, and his son, Stephen, Robert Lehto is fondly remembered by his children, Rance, Susan, and Christopher, and their families, and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a veteran and public servant, Robert K. Lehto; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert K. Lehto as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
