13105109DWHEREAS, Nick Link, a senior at Blacksburg High School, was the boys’ individual champion of the 2012 Virginia High School League Group AA state cross country tournament; and
WHEREAS, Nick Link faced tough competition in the championship race, held at the Great Meadows course in The Plains, starting against the 2011 state cross country champion and two state track champions; and
WHEREAS, adopting a conservative strategy and saving his energy, Nick Link paced himself behind the leaders for the first mile; and
WHEREAS, Nick Link’s wise strategy paid off when, as his opponents began to slow at the halfway point of the race, he took the initiative and dashed ahead to secure a considerable lead; and
WHEREAS, with only about 100 yards left in the race, another runner rapidly closed the distance to Nick Link; summoning another burst of speed, Nick Link dramatically outsprinted his opponent to win with a time of 15:34; and
WHEREAS, Nick Link helped propel the Blacksburg High School boys’ cross country team to a dominant victory; and
WHEREAS, an exemplary athlete, Nick Link displayed exceptional skill, judgment, and determination in achieving victory; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Nick Link on becoming the boys’ individual champion of the 2012 Virginia High School League Group AA state cross country tournament; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Nick Link as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his success and best wishes on his future endeavors.
