13105113DWHEREAS, Paul Coates is commended for his longtime service to the residents of Madison County as a member of the Madison County Rescue Squad since 1963; and
WHEREAS, as an original charter member of the Madison County Rescue Squad, Paul Coates first took an Advanced First Aid Course with the Orange County Volunteer Rescue Squad and began running calls with other members; and
WHEREAS, respected by his colleagues, Paul Coates served as captain of the Madison County Rescue Squad from 1972 to 1973 and provided strong leadership as its members generously gave of their time and talents to help the community; and
WHEREAS, Paul Coates also served as a core member of the Etlan satellite rescue squad station for many years and taught countless first aid classes to his fellow employees at the Virginia Department of Transportation, from which he retired with 45 years of service; and
WHEREAS, an active member of the community, Paul Coates has also been active in the Etlan United Methodist Church, Madison youth sports, and Madison County High School athletic programs; and
WHEREAS, Paul Coates earned life membership status in 1973 and was honored as the squad member of the year in 1986; and
WHEREAS, throughout his half century of service on the Madison County Rescue Squad, Paul Coates has provided skilled, compassionate, and professional care to those in need in the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Paul Coates for his distinguished volunteer service to the residents of Madison County on the occasion of his 50th anniversary with the Madison County Rescue Squad; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Paul Coates as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for his invaluable contributions to the well-being of the residents of Madison County.
