2013 SESSION
WHEREAS, Marjorie Lamar is commended for her longtime service to the residents of Madison County as a member of the Madison County Rescue Squad since 1963; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie Lamar had been teaching first aid to local Boy Scouts as the only Red Cross instructor in the county when she became one of the first charter members of the Madison County Rescue Squad; and
WHEREAS, after receiving rescue squad training from the Orange County Volunteer Rescue Squad, Marjorie Lamar began running rescue calls and, along with her husband, James, also served as a dispatcher; and
WHEREAS, the couple took calls from their business, Madison Drug Store, at a time when volunteers received calls at their homes and businesses; and
WHEREAS, in 1977 Marjorie Lamar became one of the members of the first Shock Trauma Pilot Program, later becoming a cardiac technician and attaining EMT-Intermediate status; and
WHEREAS, a highly respected member of the Madison County Rescue Squad, Marjorie Lamar became a life member in 1973 and was honored as the squad member of the year for 1998, 1999, and 2006; and
WHEREAS, Marjorie Lamar has been an outstanding representative of the Madison County Rescue Squad as a governor for the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads; and
WHEREAS, throughout her half century of service on the Madison County Rescue Squad, Marjorie Lamar has provided skilled, compassionate, and professional care to those in need; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Marjorie Lamar for her distinguished volunteer service to the residents of Madison County on the occasion of her 50th anniversary with the Madison County Rescue Squad; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Marjorie Lamar as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for her invaluable contributions to the well-being of the residents of Madison County.
