Commending the Salem High School boys' golf team.

WHEREAS, the Salem High School boys’ golf team won the Virginia High School League Group AA state championship in October 2012; and

WHEREAS, in the two-day, 36-hole contest at Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg, the Salem Spartans faced golfers from seven other high school teams; and

WHEREAS, guided by Thad Snyder, head coach of the Salem High School boys’ golf team, the team posted scores of 304 on day one and 293 on day two for a winning total of 597; and

WHEREAS, displaying exceptional skill, the Salem Spartans beat the competition by more than 20 strokes and proudly secured the team’s first championship since 1982; and

WHEREAS, in the final round of the tournament, Andrew Butts scored a 71 on the par-72 course, leading the close-knit team of six Salem High School seniors; he finished in 11th place on the overall individual leaderboard; and

WHEREAS, Will Chisom, Garrett Sweeney, and Austin Smith followed close behind with scores of 74; Will Chisom finished tied for eighth place on the overall individual leaderboard; and

WHEREAS, Alex Hart and Jack Maxey also made greatly valued contributions toward attaining the state championship title; and

WHEREAS, the victory is a tribute to the hard work of the players and coaches and the enthusiastic support shown by the students, administration, and fans of Salem High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Salem High School boys’ golf team on winning the 2012 Virginia High School League Group AA state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Thad Snyder, head coach of the Salem High School boys’ golf team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s talent and dedication.
