13105106DWHEREAS, John Merriman Lohr, an admired attorney who faithfully served as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Highland County for more than three decades, died on October 7, 2012; and
WHEREAS, a native of Ohio, John Lohr earned a bachelor’s degree from Randolph-Macon College and a law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at The College of William and Mary and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, following his education and military experience, John Lohr returned to Highland County and opened his own private law practice, skillfully representing his clients in a variety of matters; and
WHEREAS, as Commonwealth’s Attorney for Highland County, John Lohr gained the respect of his colleagues and demonstrated great integrity, commitment to justice, and knowledge of the law throughout his 32-year tenure; and
WHEREAS, a proud resident of Highland County, John Lohr took part in community events as master of the Highland Masonic Lodge No. 110 AF & AM and as a member of the Monterey Lions Club and Highland Bowling League; and
WHEREAS, a vital member of the Highland County and Monterey community, John Lohr spent his professional career in service to his fellow residents and the law; and
WHEREAS, a devoted family man, John Lohr will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Karen, with whom he loved to travel; children, Barbara, Janelle, James, and Robert, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a distinguished attorney and dedicated public servant, John Merriman Lohr; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John Merriman Lohr as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
