Celebrating the life of James L. Jenkins.

WHEREAS, James L. Jenkins was a native of Norfolk and graduated from the University of Virginia McIntyre School of Commerce and School of Law; and

WHEREAS, James Jenkins was president of Avec Electronics Corporation and managing partner of Delmar Development Corporation; and

WHEREAS, James Jenkins was a member of the City of Richmond and Virginia Bar Associations; and

WHEREAS, James Jenkins was a trustee of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, serving as registrar, junior warden, senior warden, Sunday school teacher, vestry member, and chairman of the finance committee; and

WHEREAS, James Jenkins was president and lifetime trustee of Sigma Phi Educational Foundation; and

WHEREAS, James Jenkins was an organizer and past president of the Bull and Bear Club in Richmond; and

WHEREAS, James Jenkins demonstrated his commitment to the people of Henrico County by serving as a member of the Henrico County Planning Commission, president of the Pinedale Farms Civic Association, chairman of the Henrico County Mental Health Advisory Board, and chairman of the Richmond Metropolitan Authority; and

WHEREAS, James Jenkins demonstrated his commitment to the health of Virginians by serving as chairman of the board of trustees for St. Luke’s Hospital, president of Bloomfield Home for Children, board member of the Richmond chapter of the American Heart Association, and board member of the Richmond chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society; and

WHEREAS, James Jenkins demonstrated his commitment to the safety of Virginians by serving as chairman of the Virginia Parole Board, member of the Virginia Criminal Justice Services Board, member of the Virginia Board of Correctional Education, as Virginia’s Compact Administrator for the Interstate Transfer of Parolees and Probationers, and as an administrative hearing officer for the Supreme Court of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, a devoted and loving family man, James Jenkins will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his wife, Hazel B. Jenkins; children, James L. Jenkins, Jr., Laurie J. Howard, Katherine J. Mushung, Naomi P. Iguchi, and Benjamin S. Perlman, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of James L. Jenkins; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James L. Jenkins as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory and his dedication to public service.
