2013 SESSION
13104615DWHEREAS, the Briar Woods High School football team won the Virginia High School League Group AA, Division 4 state football championship in December 2012; and
WHEREAS, finishing the season with a 15 - 0 record, the Briar Woods Falcons recorded their first undefeated season and became the first Loudoun County school to secure the state title for three straight years; the team holds a 42 - 3 record over the past three seasons; and
WHEREAS, the Briar Woods Falcons’ 52 - 0 win over Heritage High School was one of the largest margins of victory ever posted in a Group AA state championship game; and
WHEREAS, the Briar Woods Falcons controlled the game on both sides of the ball, with the offense gaining 452 total yards to the Heritage Pioneer’s 94 yards and the defense holding the Heritage Pioneers to only three first downs in the entire game; and
WHEREAS, scoring leaders for the Briar Woods Falcons were junior Trace McSorley with 161 yards, two rushing touchdowns, and a passing touchdown; senior Cory Colder with 158 yards and a touchdown; senior J. T. Logan with 74 yards and a touchdown; junior Chris Larco with 28 yards and a touchdown; and senior Cam Serigne with 53 yards and a touchdown; and
WHEREAS, the Briar Woods Falcons’ defense smothered the Heritage Pioneers, who entered the game with a 12 - 1 record; seniors Mike Barta, J. T. Logan, Trei Germany, and Cam Serigne led the team in tackles, with J. T. Logan also scoring a safety in the first quarter; and
WHEREAS, recognizing his outstanding leadership over the past three years, the Virginia High School Coaches Association named quarterback Trace McSorley the Offensive Player of the Year on the Group AA all-state football team; and
WHEREAS, the victory is a tribute to the great team chemistry, hard work, focus, and dedication of the entire team; the leadership of head coach Charlie Pierce and the rest of the coaching staff; and the enthusiastic support of the students, faculty, administration, and fans of Briar Woods High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Briar Woods High School football team for winning its third straight Virginia High School League Group AA, Division 4 state football championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charlie Pierce, head coach of the Briar Woods High School football team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s skill and determination in achieving a perfect season and its third championship in a row.
