WHEREAS, Landstown High School in Virginia Beach received the 2011 - 2012 Dodson Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity award from the Virginia High School League; and

WHEREAS, the Dodson Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity (SEI) award recognizes schools that make sportsmanship a priority and an expectation in the school and the community; and

WHEREAS, the award was renamed in 2007 to honor the memory of Claudia Dodson, an assistant director of the Virginia High School League (VHSL) from 1971 to 2002; and

WHEREAS, Claudia Dodson was passionate about ensuring that education remain a prominent feature of all VHSL programs and promoted standards of acceptable behavior for coaches, athletes, participants, students, and fans; and

WHEREAS, using a self-assessment checklist provided by the VHSL, Landstown High School demonstrated that it has enacted policies to ensure that sportsmanship is promoted and practiced at the school; and

WHEREAS, with coaches, athletes, participants, students, and fans all showing exceptional character, Landstown High School earned one of the 2011 - 2012 Dodson SEI awards by scoring 90 percent or higher with the self-assessment checklist; and

WHEREAS, Landstown High School has shown outstanding dedication to the VHSL’s mission to build and promote respectful, successful high school sports programs in the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Landstown High School on the occasion of winning the 2011 - 2012 Dodson Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Landstown High School as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the school’s commitment to fair play on and off the field.
