HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 838
Celebrating the life of Agnes Strauss Wolf.

WHEREAS, Agnes Strauss Wolf, a dynamic citizen of Fairfax County who inspired others with her passion, determination, and kindness, died on August 11, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Vassar College, Aggie Wolf broke ground as one of the first female investigators hired by the Senate Special Committee to Investigate the National Defense Program, commonly known as the “Truman Committee,” and encouraged the formation of a similar commission more than 50 years later; and

WHEREAS, Aggie Wolf also worked as an investigator for the Senate Special Committee to Investigate Crime in Interstate Commerce, the “Kefauver Committee”; as a reporter for the Congressional Quarterly; and as a legislative assistant to Representative Helen Gahagan Douglas; and

WHEREAS, a lifetime member of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee and cofounder of the Northern Virginia Democratic Club, Aggie Wolf tirelessly supported Democratic Party ideals and candidates; and

WHEREAS, Aggie Wolf joined the Woman’s National Democratic Club in 1953 and remained a faithful member until her passing, serving in a variety of capacities over the course of more than 50 years; and

WHEREAS, throughout her life, Aggie Wolf was a staunch advocate for women’s rights, opening doors for those that followed and serving as a trusted mentor to aspiring leaders; and

WHEREAS, Aggie Wolf also had a strong affinity for the Cape Cod National Seashore Park and surrounding area, which stemmed from her early experiences there and continued affiliation with the area throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Alfred, Aggie Wolf will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her children, Sally, John, Steven, and Andrew, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a remarkable Virginian, Agnes Strauss Wolf; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Agnes Strauss Wolf as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
