Commending John Marshall Bank.

WHEREAS, John Marshall Bank was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2013 Best of Reston Award in the Corporate Business Leader category; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston Awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the greater Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, John Marshall Bank was founded as a community-based institution and sought to provide personalized service in local economies; and

WHEREAS, building a strong tradition of charitable giving, John Marshall Bank raises and donates thousands of dollars to regional charities every year; in 2012 John Marshall Bank raised $30,000 at an annual golf tournament and donated an additional $40,000; and

WHEREAS, building relationships in the community, each new branch of John Marshall Bank donates $1,000 to a local charity, and company officers engage in thousands of hours of volunteer service; and

WHEREAS, conducting free seminars for emerging small businesses and often providing legislative advocates on behalf of small businesses, John Marshall Bank works to ensure successful entrepreneurship in the community; and

WHEREAS, committed to furthering education, officers of John Marshall Bank mentor students through the Latino Student Fund, volunteer as instructors at Strayer University, and raise money for the Fairfax County Public Schools Educational Foundation; and

WHEREAS, John Marshall Bank was recently honored by the Boy Scouts of America for its financial assistance and commitment to advancing the Boy Scouts’ mission; and

WHEREAS, in 2012 John Marshall Bank hosted a motorcycle ride to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and also partnered with the Angel Tree Christmas project; and

WHEREAS, John Marshall Bank officers serve on various boards, including those of the Fellowship Square Foundation in Herndon, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Foundation in Reston, and the Herndon Elderly Housing Commission at the Herndon Harbor House; and

WHEREAS, the officers and employees of John Marshall Bank are dedicated to the communities served by the bank’s many branches and work diligently to improve quality of life in each of those communities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend John Marshall Bank on its many contributions to Northern Virginia and on its well-deserved honor as a 2013 Best of Reston Award recipient in the Corporate Business Leader category; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Marshall Bank as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for the bank’s tireless dedication to Reston.
