2013 SESSION
WHEREAS, Amanda Andere was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with its prestigious 2013 Best of Reston Vade Bolton-Ann Rodriguez Young Leaders-Entrusting Our Community’s Future Award; and
WHEREAS, the Vade Bolton-Ann Rodriguez Young Leaders-Entrusting Our Community’s Future Award is given in memory of two past Best of Reston honorees who played a special role in the development, growth, and work of the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., and who shared a special passion and gift for mentoring and inspiring young people and future leaders; and
WHEREAS, Amanda Andere has been a compassionate advocate for her fellow Reston residents, addressing poverty issues and ensuring that all residents have a voice in the community; and
WHEREAS, Amanda Andere grew up in Northern Virginia, later graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor’s degree, and earned her master’s degree from George Mason University; she now teaches in the nonprofit management program at George Mason University; and
WHEREAS, a 2008 graduate of the Leadership Fairfax program, Amanda Andere applies her skill as a leader to inspire and motivate others in all she does; she currently serves as a coach and on the Program Committee at Leadership Fairfax; and
WHEREAS, a driving force in the area, Amanda Andere works with many groups, including the Take Heart Association Project, the Hunter Mill District Budget Task Force, the Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington, Nonprofit NOVA, and the Fairfax County Alliance for Human Services; and
WHEREAS, Amanda Andere is the executive director of FACETS, a nonprofit organization that helps individuals struggling with poverty or homelessness; under her leadership, FACETS has earned recognition several times for its important work in the community; and
WHEREAS, as an active, respected member of the Reston Association Board of Directors, Amanda Andere displays great wisdom through her vision and initiative; and
WHEREAS, an integral member of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Christian Church of Reston, Amanda Andere serves as a deacon, offering both spiritual guidance and heartfelt support to members of the congregation; and
WHEREAS, with her enthusiastic leadership and unyielding commitment to the community, Amanda Andere serves as a role model for future leaders and volunteers in Reston and Northern Virginia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Amanda Andere on her many contributions to Northern Virginia and on her well-deserved honor as a Vade Bolton-Ann Rodriguez Young Leaders-Entrusting Our Community’s Future Award recipient; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Amanda Andere as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for her tireless dedication to Reston.
