HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 788 Commending Virginia FREE.

WHEREAS, Virginia FREE, the Virginia Foundation for Research and Economic Education, proudly celebrates 25 years of strengthening Virginia’s business environment in 2013; and

WHEREAS, Virginia FREE began when a small group of executives saw the need for business leaders to be more involved in decisions made at the state level affecting business interests; and

WHEREAS, the leaders approached the Virginia Business Council, who enthusiastically supported the idea of an organization dedicated to providing accurate, nonpartisan information to business leaders; and

WHEREAS, Virginia FREE, under the leadership of president Clayton Roberts since its inception, has benefited from the guidance and insight of its board of directors, a distinguished group of executives from Virginia’s leading corporations; and

WHEREAS, today, Virginia FREE represents a wide array of business interests and works to protect and support the state’s strong business environment through the political process; and

WHEREAS, Virginia FREE hosts a variety of events throughout the year that bring together leaders of Virginia government, business, and politics to discuss public policy objectives that promote free enterprise; and

WHEREAS, Virginia FREE provides a wealth of nonpartisan information to its membership, composed of corporations, foundations, associations, political action committees, and individuals doing business in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Virginia FREE, whose efforts to promote the Commonwealth’s business environment have often led to Virginia being named by independent groups as one of the best places to do business in the United States, looks forward to continuing to serve the Commonwealth’s business interests as it marks its 25th anniversary; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Virginia FREE on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Virginia FREE as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for the organization’s commitment to enhancing the Commonwealth’s business environment.
