Celebrating the life of Rene Raymond Dufour.

WHEREAS, Rene Raymond Dufour, an admired resident of Hot Springs in Bath County who faithfully served the community in a variety of capacities, died on August 27, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a native of Hot Springs, Rene Dufour, a talented athlete, graduated from Greenbriar Military School and also attended Georgetown University; and

WHEREAS, Rene Dufour proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and worked for American Airlines in Washington, D.C., before returning to Bath County; and

WHEREAS, Rene Dufour married the love of his life, Mary Madge Alexander, and the young couple relocated to Hot Springs, settling at their beloved Hillandale Farm, where they raised their five children; and

WHEREAS, Rene Dufour served for more than 20 years on the Bath County School Board, working with other school board members, school staff, and parents to ensure that Bath County students received the best possible education to prepare them for their futures; and

WHEREAS, Rene Dufour was a faithful supporter of the Bath County High School Chargers, serving for many years as the chain marker for the football team and as a member of the Bath County High School Boosters Club; and

WHEREAS, committed to the well-being and prosperity of the community, Rene Dufour provided wise insight and guidance as a member of the Bath County Airport Authority and Bath Community Hospital board; and

WHEREAS, Rene Dufour also served as chair of the local Republican Committee and on the Bath County Electoral Board and as a member of Faith Covenant Family Church; and

WHEREAS, an avid outdoorsman, Rene Dufour was a member of the Fort Lewis Hunt Club and spent many hours enjoying the scenic beauty of Bath County while hunting, golfing, and working on his farm; and

WHEREAS, a vital member of the Bath County community, Rene Dufour dedicated countless hours to the betterment of the lives of local residents; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his son, John, Rene Dufour will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Madge; children, Laura, Dawn, Louie, and Mary, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of Bath County, Rene Raymond Dufour; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Rene Raymond Dufour as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
