2013 SESSION
13102980DWHEREAS, West Point High School was honored as a United States Department of Education No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School in 2012; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Education nominated two high schools in Virginia for the 2012 award; and
WHEREAS, the Blue Ribbon Schools Program evaluates schools on various factors, including standardized test results, breadth and depth of curriculum, in-depth examination of the reading program, review of a selected additional curricular area, and instructional methods and school leadership; and
WHEREAS, one of only 269 schools nationwide and one of only seven public and two private schools in the Commonwealth to earn the coveted honor, West Point High School received a plaque and flag to signify its Blue Ribbon status; and
WHEREAS, led by Principal Mark Dorsey under the supervision of Division Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Smith, West Point High School offers rigorous academics and an array of extracurricular and athletic activities designed to build students’ intellect and enhance their learning; and
WHEREAS, committed to building bridges to opportunity, West Point High School has created a supportive learning environment in which all students can learn and grow; and
WHEREAS, West Point High School’s distinguished Blue Ribbon School award is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the students, parents, administration, teachers, and staff and the support of the division school system; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend West Point High School on its selection as a United States Department of Education No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School award winner; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to West Point High School as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for the school’s commitment to the young people of West Point.
