HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 722
Celebrating the life of Andrew David Fox.

WHEREAS, Virginia State Police Trooper Andrew David Fox of Draper in Pulaski County, died in the line of duty on October 5, 2012, after he was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic at the State Fair of Virginia at the Meadow; and

WHEREAS, as a young man, Andrew Fox worked on several farms while a student at Tazewell High School and pursued his interest in agriculture by earning a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science from Virginia Tech with the idea of one day owning his own beef cattle farm; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to the well-being and safety of his fellow residents, Andrew Fox began his career in law enforcement with the Tazewell Police Department before joining the Virginia State Police in 2006; and

WHEREAS, a highly trained and respected trooper who earned numerous commendations, Andrew Fox was a member of the Honor Guard and tactical team, a field training officer, and an instructor at the Virginia State Police Academy, with expertise in advanced defensive tactics, radar, and LIDAR; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Fox was first assigned to Fairfax County, where he proudly and safely escorted presidents and other dignitaries traveling in the area, and had recently been assigned to Pulaski County; and

WHEREAS, Mike Honaker, first sergeant with the Virginia State Police, said Andrew David Fox was a dedicated, hardworking, exceptional employee with a servant’s heart; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Fox took an active role in the community as a member of the Draper Volunteer Fire Department and Tazewell Baptist Church; he also attended Wytheville Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, the second Virginia State Police Trooper from his family killed in the line of duty, Andrew Fox exemplified the integrity, devotion to duty, and courage displayed by members of the Virginia State Police as they strive to protect and serve the Commonwealth’s residents; and

WHEREAS, known for his sense of humor, generous heart, and strong work ethic, Andrew Fox will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Ginny; parents, Julia and David; sister, Lauren, and her family; half-brother, Thomas, and his family; numerous other family members and friends; and fellow state troopers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected law-enforcement professional, Andrew David Fox; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Andrew David Fox as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
