HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 717 Commending the Western Albemarle High School boys' tennis team.

WHEREAS, the Western Albemarle High School boys’ tennis team took home its fifth state title when it won the 2012 Virginia High School League Group AA state championship game; and

WHEREAS, the state title, captured before an enthusiastic crowd at the Virginia Tech Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center, marked the program’s fourth state title in the last six years; and

WHEREAS, the Western Albemarle Warriors won the Region II title and defeated Jamestown High School and Blacksburg High School to advance to the state championship game, where they faced E.C. Glass High School; and

WHEREAS, the Warriors won the first two of three matches, led by senior Tom Lewis and junior Timmy O’Shea, while senior Cam Scot, who had earlier won the state singles title, won a third match to bring the Warriors ahead 3 - 1; and

WHEREAS, the E.C. Glass players battled back, winning two more matches to even the score, 3 - 3, as the teams headed to the doubles games; and

WHEREAS, Cam Scot and Will Diamond went 6 - 3, 6 - 3 against E.C. Glass in their match, while Gray Evans and Timmy O’Shea kept fans in suspense as they rallied to come from behind during a tiebreaker in their first set to win the set; and

WHEREAS, Gray Evans and Timmy O’Shea kept the momentum going and clinched the state tournament title for the Western Albemarle Warriors; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the Western Albemarle Warriors is a tribute to the skill and hard work of the players, the leadership of head coach Andrew Wymer, and the support of the Western Albemarle High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Western Albemarle High School boys’ tennis team on winning the Virginia High School League Group AA state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Andrew Wymer, head coach of the Western Albemarle High School boys’ tennis team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on an outstanding season and championship performance.
