Celebrating the life of Charles William Baltz, Jr.

WHEREAS, Charles William Baltz, Jr., a longtime resident of Ashland who made many contributions to the well-being of his fellow residents through his volunteer service in community organizations, died on November 23, 2012; and

WHEREAS, the son of Charles W. Baltz, Sr., and Rose Anna Grove Powell, Charles Baltz proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and spent nearly four decades with C&P Telephone Company, where he was a valued employee; and

WHEREAS, committed to the well-being of his fellow residents, Charles Baltz was a captain of the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad; and

WHEREAS, Charles Baltz, while serving in various capacities for more than a quarter century of his devoted service to the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad, taught first aid classes and also delivered 27 babies and 2 sets of twins; and

WHEREAS, a member of Independence Ruritan Club for 50 years, Charles Baltz participated in and provided leadership to a host of community service activities designed to meet the needs of local residents; and

WHEREAS, a man who lived his faith through his actions, Charles Baltz also enjoyed fellowship and worship at First Baptist Church in Ashland; and

WHEREAS, in his free time, Charles Baltz spent countless hours outdoors in the company of his beloved children and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, a vital member of the Ashland community, Charles Baltz generously gave of his time and talents to his fellow residents over the course of his long and well-lived life, helping make the Town of Ashland a great place to live; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his son, Curtis, Charles Baltz will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Jean; his surviving children, Carol, Charles, and Cynthia, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of Ashland, Charles William Baltz, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles William Baltz, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
