Celebrating the life of Robert Wayne Rice.

WHEREAS, Robert Wayne Rice, a dedicated and meticulous public servant in Fauquier County, died on October 18, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Robert “Bob” Rice joined the United States Army in 1954, served for two years, followed by four years in the National Guard; and

WHEREAS, working as a network engineer, Bob Rice was a loyal employee of Bell Atlantic for 37 years; he would further utilize his skills as the owner of his own company, Rice Electric; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to the well-being of his fellow residents, Bob Rice devoted countless hours of service as a member of the Council of the Town of Warrenton from 1986 to 2004 and also became vice mayor from 2002 to 2004; and

WHEREAS, Bob Rice served as the chair of the public works committee, a member of the finance and public works committees, and a member of the transportation safety commission; and

WHEREAS, Bob Rice also faithfully represented the Town of Warrenton as a representative on the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission, the 17 Spur Committee, and the Fauquier County Joint Communications Center board; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to the best use of taxpayer dollars, Bob Rice studied data from Warrenton and similar towns in painstaking detail, searching for ways to maximize the use of tax dollars and keep spending low; and

WHEREAS, always concerned for the welfare of others in his community, Bob Rice was also involved in charitable activities; and

WHEREAS, when he retired from the town council in 2004, Bob Rice left behind an outstanding legacy of care and consideration for the people of Warrenton; and

WHEREAS, Bob Rice is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth; his children, Robert, Jr., Mary, Marcia, Evelyn, and Heather, and their families; numerous other family members and friends; and the residents of Warrenton; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected former member of the Council of the Town of Warrenton, Robert Wayne Rice; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Wayne Rice as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
