WHEREAS, William S. Feasenmyer, Jr., a longtime member of American Legion Post 284 in Colonial Heights and a 2011 - 2012 Vice Commander of the American Legion’s Department of Virginia, is commended for his faithful service to his fellow veterans and their families; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Colonial Heights High School, William “Bill” Feasenmyer followed in his father’s footsteps by joining the United States Army and becoming a paratrooper and parachute rigger with the 82nd Airborne Division; and

WHEREAS, after his exemplary military service, Bill Feasenmyer earned an associate’s degree from Richard Bland College and later a bachelor’s degree from Virginia State College, now University; and

WHEREAS, Bill Feasenmyer enjoyed a successful career in the insurance industry that spanned nearly three decades and, in retirement, served as a substitute teacher and a deputy sheriff; and

WHEREAS, for more than three decades, Bill Feasenmyer has remained committed to his fellow veterans and their families as an active member of American Legion Post 284, serving in various capacities over the years; and

WHEREAS, Bill Feasenmyer has held a number of leadership positions in American Legion Post 284, including athletic officer, oratorical chair, children and youth co-chair, finance officer, building rental chair, vice commander, and post commander; and

WHEREAS, a firm believer in the importance of fair play and sportsmanship on the field and in life, Bill Feasenmyer has been instrumental in the success of the American Legion Baseball program; and

WHEREAS, in 2008 Bill Feasenmyer was elected Commander of American Legion District 11 and worked to organize the Junior Law Cadet Program for the district and provided thoughtful guidance for the district’s Junior ROTC Drill Team Competition; and

WHEREAS, in 2011 Bill Feasenmyer was elected Vice Commander of the Department of Virginia; he represented six districts and 84 posts of the Eastern Region of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, a respected leader, Bill Feasenmyer was recognized for his tireless efforts on behalf of veterans and their families as the Legionnaire of the Year for American Legion Post 284, the 11th District, and the Eastern Region; and

WHEREAS, a man of great integrity and honor, Bill Feasenmyer has always answered the call to serve, providing strong leadership to help America’s military men and women and their families and modeling the ideals of an involved citizenry; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend William S. Feasenmyer, Jr., for his dedicated service to veterans and their families through the American Legion; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to William S. Feasenmyer, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his service to his community, country, and fellow veterans.
