Commending Rosemary Willis.

WHEREAS, Rosemary Willis, a native of Chesapeake, was crowned Miss Virginia 2012 before an enthusiastic crowd at the Roanoke Civic Center on June 30, 2012; and

WHEREAS, the Miss Virginia pageant promotes intelligent, poised, and highly motivated young women who wish to make a difference in their community and earn scholarship money to further their education; and

WHEREAS, during her reign as Miss Virginia, Rosemary Willis will travel around the Commonwealth promoting her platform of “Get Moving Today for a Healthier Tomorrow” and serve as the Virginia state ambassador for the Children’s Miracle Network; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Indian River High School, Rosemary Willis is a junior at The College of William and Mary with plans to earn a master’s degree in exercise science and direct her own nonprofit organization; and

WHEREAS, Rosemary Willis was the captain of her high school’s field hockey team; she earned most valuable player and All-District Team honors and was named the Virginian Pilot Athlete of the Week; and

WHEREAS, when an accident during her senior year of high school left her unable to run for a year, Rosemary Willis realized the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy self-esteem and controlling weight; and

WHEREAS, at The College of William and Mary, Rosemary Willis has remained active, encouraging others to be physically fit through her work as a fitness instructor and personal trainer to a wide range of individuals while promoting the importance of a healthy life at schools and community events; and

WHEREAS, Rosemary Willis has spent several summers at sports camps across the country and around the world, helping promote healthy living to those recovering from natural disasters and those living in impoverished circumstances; and

WHEREAS, a talented vocalist, Rosemary Willis shared her musical talents at the Miss Virginia pageant by singing I Who Have Nothing; she also sings for The College of William and Mary’s a cappella group, The Accidentals; and

WHEREAS, a young woman of intelligence, talent, and dedication, Rosemary Willis is an exceptional ambassador for the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Rosemary Willis on her selection as Miss Virginia 2012; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rosemary Willis as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for her many accomplishments.
