Commending Stacy Ervin.

WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin, a graduate of Twin Springs High School in Scott County who holds the coveted title of the Virginia High School League’s all-time leading scorer in basketball, joined an illustrious group of athletes when he was inducted, as part of the Class of 2012, into the Virginia High School League Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia High School League Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Virginia High School League and Virginia High School Coaches Association, honors outstanding athletes, coaches, and contributors; and

WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin had the distinct honor of being the only athlete inducted into the Virginia High School League Hall of Fame for the Class of 2012; and

WHEREAS, an extraordinary athlete, Stacy Ervin averaged 26.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game during his high school career while at Twin Springs High School from 1994 to 1997; and

WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin earned district, region, and state all-team honors and Cumberland District and Region D player of the year honors his sophomore, junior, and senior years, was twice named the Bristol Herald Courier and Kingsport Times-News player of the year, and was a two-time Associated Press Group A basketball player of the year; and

WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin brought fans to their feet with his phenomenal performances over the years, scored a career-high 54 points in the Cumberland District tournament his senior year, and created great enthusiasm for the Twin Springs High School basketball team; and

WHEREAS, on February 7, 1997, Stacy Ervin scored 31 points to bring his career record to 2,536 and break the existing Virginia High School League career record of 2,530 points; he finished his high school basketball career with 2,687 points, a record that continues to stand today; and

WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin also had 442 career free throws and 580 two-point field goals, scored 40 or more points six times during his high school career, and still holds the state record for the most three-point career field goals with 363; and

WHEREAS, throughout his exceptional high school basketball career, Stacy Ervin enjoyed the support of his father, Huey Ervin, and his mother, the late Kathy Ervin; his basketball coaches; and the Twin Springs High School community; and

WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin went on to play basketball at Western Carolina University before transferring to the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration; and

WHEREAS, Stacy Ervin joined such greats as Ralph Sampson, Moses Malone, Tiki Barber, and Grant Hill when he was inducted, as part of the Class of 2012, into the Virginia High School League Hall of Fame at a dinner on October 15, 2012, in Charlottesville, with his wife, Ginny, and daughter, Lexi, attending; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Stacy Ervin on his induction, as part of the Class of 2012, into the Virginia High School League Hall of Fame; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Stacy Ervin as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for his remarkable high school basketball career.
