HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 673
Celebrating the life of Larry A. Heaton.

WHEREAS, Larry A. Heaton, a well-known leader in the Commonwealth’s banking industry and admired community supporter from Collinsville, died on December 9, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a native of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Atlantic Christian College, Larry Heaton was a career Virginia banker, with over 30 years of banking leadership in the Martinsville and Rocky Mount areas; and

WHEREAS, Larry Heaton became a bank chief executive officer at a young age, demonstrating his strong leadership abilities; and

WHEREAS, Larry Heaton was instrumental in starting Franklin Community Bank, serving as its chairman, president, and chief executive officer from its 2002 opening until his death; and

WHEREAS, committed to helping the banking industry serve its customers and communities, Larry Heaton was an active leader with the Virginia Bankers Association and Virginia Association of Community Banks; and

WHEREAS, Larry Heaton was a community leader, serving on numerous boards, including the Franklin County YMCA, the Blue Ridge Foundation, the Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital, and the Franklin County Economic Development Advisory Committee; and

WHEREAS, Larry Heaton was an active member of Smith Memorial United Methodist Church and the Rocky Mount Rotary Club; and

WHEREAS, a man of great integrity, Larry Heaton made an indelible imprint on the communities where he lived and worked through his humble service, community leadership, and business acumen; and

WHEREAS, Larry Heaton will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Betty; sons, Daniel and Matt; as well as all of his colleagues at Franklin Community Bank; numerous other family members and friends; and the communities he served; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected business and civic leader and admired citizen of the Commonwealth, Larry A. Heaton; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Larry A. Heaton as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
