HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 660 Celebrating the life of Tazewell Ellett III.

WHEREAS, Tazewell Ellett III, an esteemed realtor and an integral member of the Richmond community, died on December 9, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Tazewell “Taz” Ellett III attended McGuire’s University School and Virginia Military Institute (VMI), later becoming the president of the alumni associations of both and the president of the VMI Club of Richmond; and

WHEREAS, during World War II, Taz Ellett would rise to the rank of Captain in the United States Marine Corps after serving in two of the most hard-fought victories of the Pacific Theatre, the Battle of Peleliu and the Battle of Okinawa; and

WHEREAS, Taz Ellett operated his own business, Ellett & Company Realtors, for over 25 years; he would later become an associate broker at Neville C. Johnson, one of the oldest realtors in Richmond; and

WHEREAS, Taz Ellett served as the president of the Richmond Association of Realtors and on the boards of the Virginia Association of Realtors, the Metropolitan National Bank, the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, and the Better Business Bureau of Richmond; and

WHEREAS, working to better his community through various charitable organizations, Taz Ellett sat on the board of the United Givers Fund and was a charter member and the president of the West Richmond Kiwanis Club; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his dedication to the community, the Kiwanis Club established an annual college scholarship in Taz Ellett’s honor; and

WHEREAS, a loyal member of Saint James’s Episcopal Church, Taz Ellett served on the vestry for three years and as the senior warden and president of the Men of Saint James; and

WHEREAS, a man devoted to his family, Taz Ellett is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marguerite; his children, Susan, Tazewell, and Scott, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a business leader and a fine member of the community, Tazewell Ellett III; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Tazewell Ellett III as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
