13100625DWHEREAS, the Reverend David Raymond Chew, Jr., an outstanding volunteer firefighter for the Bloxom Volunteer Fire Company in Accomack County, died on July 16, 2012, as he was responding to a call; and
WHEREAS, a native of the Eastern Shore, David Chew was active in the Boy Scouts, earning the Eagle Scout medal, and attended Eastern Shore Community College and West Virginia University; and
WHEREAS, dedicated to the community in which he lived, David Chew followed in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps by joining the Bloxom Volunteer Fire Company; he also served as an emergency medical services provider for Northampton and Accomack Counties; and
WHEREAS, a long-time member of the Bloxom Volunteer Fire Company, David Chew responded to a wide range of calls over the years and provided strong leadership to the organization to help it fulfill its mission; and
WHEREAS, David Chew faithfully served his fellow firefighters and the community as he battled an array of fires, staying abreast of the latest technology and helping in fire prevention efforts; and
WHEREAS, a skilled and knowledgeable emergency medical services provider, David Chew also provided outstanding care to those in need; and
WHEREAS, a compassionate spiritual leader, David Chew served as a part-time pastor and member of the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church, having recently been appointed as pastor to Hallwood United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, a vital part of the Eastern Shore community, David Chew touched the lives of countless individuals over the course of his life with his skilled service, generous heart, and caring nature; and
WHEREAS, devoted to his family, David Chew will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Rebecca; son, David III; parents, David, Sr., and Mary Lou; brother, Henry; numerous other family members and friends; and fellow firefighters; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated community servant, the Reverend David Raymond Chew, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Reverend David Raymond Chew, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
