Commending Meg Tuccillo.

WHEREAS, Meg Tuccillo, who retired from Arlington Public Schools in 2012 after more than two decades of distinguished service, was named by the Arlington Community Foundation as the 2012 recipient of the William T. Newman, Jr. Spirit of Community Award; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Molloy College, Meg Tuccillo earned a master’s degree from George Mason University and began her educational career as a teacher before joining Arlington Public Schools in 1987; and

WHEREAS, Meg Tuccillo served as principal of Tuckahoe Elementary School and then Abingdon Elementary School before becoming assistant superintendent for administrative services in 1997, a position she held until her retirement; she also served on an interim basis as assistant superintendent for instruction after she retired; and

WHEREAS, an outstanding leader, Meg Tuccillo oversaw 35 principals and building administrators, ran a professional development program for administrators and future administrators, served as the school board’s liaison with its student advisory board, and adjudicated student offenses throughout the school division; and

WHEREAS, known for her dynamic spirit and commitment to the youth and residents of Arlington County, Meg Tuccillo has devoted considerable time and energy to numerous worthy community endeavors; and

WHEREAS, a founding member of the board of the Arlington Partnership for Children, Youth, and Families, Meg Tuccillo also served as president of the board of directors of the Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network and is currently on the Arlington Regional Council of the United Way of the National Capital Area; and

WHEREAS, Meg Tuccillo was named an Arlington Public School Principal of the Year and received the Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Award and Arlington Commission on the Status of Women Person of Vision Award for her outstanding leadership; and

WHEREAS, throughout her exemplary career with Arlington Public Schools and with her extensive community service, Meg Tuccillo has touched the lives of countless individuals and made Arlington a better place in which to live and learn; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Meg Tuccillo on the occasion of her retirement from Arlington Public Schools and on being named by the Arlington Community Foundation as the 2012 recipient of the William T. Newman, Jr. Spirit of Community Award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Meg Tuccillo as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for her commitment to the youth and residents of Arlington County.
