WHEREAS, Judy Ann Baughan Lankford, a dynamic business owner who provided invaluable guidance and support to nonprofit organizations through her consulting firm, died on October 24, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of the Westhampton College of the University of Richmond, where she met her husband, Nelson, Judy Lankford served as president of the Westhampton College National Alumnae Association and later received a Distinguished Alumnae Award; she also earned a master’s degree from the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, a passionate believer in the importance of nonprofit organizations to the community, Judy Lankford devoted her professional career to the nonprofit world, serving in a variety of capacities with a cheerful demeanor and contagious enthusiasm; and

WHEREAS, Judy Lankford gained valuable experience at Indiana University, where she served as a senior conference manager and supervised grant writing, marketing, and information systems programs; and

WHEREAS, Judy Lankford also served as a grant reviewer for the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services; and

WHEREAS, upon returning to Richmond, Judy Lankford served as deputy director and director of development at the Valentine Museum, now known as the Valentine Richmond History Center; and

WHEREAS, Judy Lankford successfully managed two capital campaigns and created and managed public relations and group sales offices to help share the Valentine Museum’s many treasures with the community; and

WHEREAS, in 1995, Judy Lankford opened her own consulting practice, Lankford and Associates, LLC, to help nonprofits better fulfill their missions through work on their fundraising programs and governing boards; and

WHEREAS, a respected Certified Fund Raising Executive, Judy Lankford taught courses in fundraising for the University of Richmond Certificate in Philanthropy Program, the University of Virginia School of Continuing and Professional Studies, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals; and

WHEREAS, a founding member of the advisory board for the University of Richmond’s Institute on Philanthropy, Judy Lankford served as president and board member of the Central Virginia Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals; and

WHEREAS, a mentor to countless development professionals and respected for her experience and depth of knowledge, Judy Lankford was selected to receive the prestigious Nina Abady Award from the Virginia Association of Fundraising Executives for her outstanding professional and ethical service; and

WHEREAS, a longtime member of Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Judy Lankford served as a lay leader and a member of the vestry and chaired the Every Member Canvass; and

WHEREAS, a vibrant and compassionate woman, Judy Lankford will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband of 41 years, Nelson; brother Michael and brother-in-law Harvey and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected Virginian, Judy Ann Baughan Lankford; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Nelson Lankford as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
