13100243DWHEREAS, Greenwood Christian Academy, a proud part of the greater Williamsburg area community, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012; and
WHEREAS, in 1962 Greenwood Christian Academy opened its doors to its first preschool and kindergarten students, meeting in a basement for three years until moving to a building off Lake Powell Road; and
WHEREAS, in 1971 Kitty Beatty, whose three children attended Greenwood Christian Academy, joined the staff as a kindergarten teacher; three years later she bought the school, serving with great faithfulness and vision until her retirement in 2012 as director of the preschool; and
WHEREAS, in 2002 Greenwood Christian Academy moved to King’s Way Church and met there for several years before renovating the old movie theater at Williamsburg Crossing, where the school now holds classes; and
WHEREAS, today, Greenwood Christian Academy provides a strong Christian-based academic curriculum for students ranging from preschool age through sixth grade; and
WHEREAS, dedicated teachers, committed school board members and administrators, and supportive parents continue to create a positive learning environment where students thrive academically; and
WHEREAS, on September 14, 2012, Greenwood Christian Academy celebrated its 50th anniversary with an open house and 50th anniversary celebration; and on September 18, 2012, it continued its celebration at a Back to School Night; and
WHEREAS, at the anniversary events, Greenwood Christian Academy displayed its original sign from the Lake Powell Road location and yearbooks from various years, while former “chippies” and “squirrels” also brought their yearbooks and memorabilia to share; and
WHEREAS, Greenwood Christian Academy now looks forward to continuing to serve the young people of the greater Williamsburg area in the future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Greenwood Christian Academy on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Greenwood Christian Academy as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations.
