Celebrating the life of Benjamin Rice Lacy IV.

WHEREAS, Benjamin Rice Lacy IV, a well-known attorney from Richmond admired for the depth of his legal knowledge and commitment to the community, died on July 16, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin “Ben” Lacy grew up in Front Royal, graduated from Warren County High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Davidson College; and

WHEREAS, Ben Lacy studied law at the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, and, upon graduation, embarked on a legal career that would span decades and be marked by dedication to his clients and profession; and

WHEREAS, known for his collegial and professional manner, Ben Lacy spent 27 years with the law firm of Sands Anderson, gaining widespread recognition for his expertise in insurance and the legislative and regulatory process; and

WHEREAS, Ben Lacy earned numerous awards and accolades over the course of his career, including recognition in the 2010 and 2011 Best Lawyers in America and inclusion as one of Virginia’s “Legal Elite” by Virginia Business magazine; and

WHEREAS, Ben Lacy devoted countless hours serving others through his pro bono work and received the Volunteer of the Year award from the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation for his work with the Pro Bono Clearinghouse; and

WHEREAS, Ben Lacy also generously gave of his time and talents as a board member of the Central Virginia Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, elder at River Road Presbyterian Church, and board member of the Commonwealth Club; and

WHEREAS, a true Virginia gentleman who touched the lives of countless individuals with his kind words, thoughtful manner, and good humor, Ben Lacy will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Sandy; children, Rice and Callie, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a distinguished attorney and community supporter, Benjamin Rice Lacy IV; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Benjamin Rice Lacy IV as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
