2013 SESSION
13100103DWHEREAS, the Albemarle High School boys’ soccer team capped a winning season by capturing the Virginia High School League Group AAA state championship on June 9, 2012; and
WHEREAS, the Albemarle High School boys’ soccer team defeated Colonial Forge High School to win the Northwest Region championship before advancing to the state championship game to face the team again after defeating Grassfield High School and Lake Braddock Secondary School; and
WHEREAS, the rival teams met before an enthusiastic crowd at Westfield High School at the Virginia High School Group AAA Jubilee; and
WHEREAS, Kai Marshall scored early for the Albemarle High School boys’ soccer team on a feed from Rowen Perry to establish a 1 - 0 lead that the Patriots maintained throughout the first half; and
WHEREAS, the Albemarle boys’ soccer team, which was playing in its first state championship, came out strong again in the second half, with Rowen Perry finding Andrew Solomon, who doubled the Patriots’ lead against the Colonial Forge team; and
WHEREAS, the Albemarle Patriots, with 10 seniors on the team, sealed their state championship victory when Jon Mathes fed the ball to Victor Zarate, who scored with approximately 17 minutes left in the match; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the Albemarle High School boys’ soccer team is a tribute to the talent and dedication of all the players, the leadership of head coach Scott Jackson and his staff, and the support of the Albemarle High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Albemarle High School boys’ soccer team on winning the 2012 Virginia High School League Group AAA state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Scott Jackson, head coach of the Albemarle High School boys’ soccer team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on the team’s winning season and championship performance.
