WHEREAS, Deborah Lane is commended for her 30 years of exemplary service with the City of Staunton on the occasion of her retirement as Clerk of the City Council; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Lane served as an administrative assistant in the Planning and Inspections Department, a technician in the City Assessor’s office, and deputy clerk in the Clerk of the Circuit Court’s office prior to becoming the Clerk of the City Council; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Lane faithfully served the residents of Staunton under Mayors William H. Campbell, G. John Avoli, and Lacy B. King, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, for 21 years, Deborah Lane accurately recorded the meetings of City Council and various boards and commissions, oversaw the publishing of official Council actions, and compiled certain ordinances and resolutions; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Lane also ably served as an administrative assistant to the City Attorney for a period of time while also serving as Clerk of the City Council; and

WHEREAS, admired for her depth of knowledge and calm manner, Deborah Lane modernized the Clerk of the City Council’s office to ensure the more efficient and effective operation of local government to better serve city residents; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Lane earned the Certified Municipal Clerk and the Master Municipal Clerk designations during her tenure with the City of Staunton and served as the president of the Virginia Municipal Clerks Association from 1997 to 1998; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Lane made many contributions to her profession and provided valuable assistance to other clerks across the Commonwealth throughout her career; and

WHEREAS, after 30 years of dedicated service, Deborah Lane looks forward to spending time with family and friends, traveling, serving in her church and community, and expanding her quilting business; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Deborah Lane for her 30 years of distinguished service on the occasion of her retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Deborah Lane as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for her commitment to serving the residents of the City of Staunton.
