Celebrating the life of William Stuart Crabtree, Jr.

WHEREAS, William Stuart Crabtree, Jr., a talented photographer and graphic designer, who shared the Commonwealth’s scenic beauty and many attractions with individuals around the world through his work at the Virginia Tourism Corporation, died on August 23, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a native of Fredericksburg, William “Bill” Crabtree graduated from Broad Run High School and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a corporal; and

WHEREAS, following his military service, Bill Crabtree furthered his education and honed his photographic skills at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he earned an undergraduate degree; and

WHEREAS, in 1997 Bill Crabtree joined the Department of Conservation and Recreation, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors as evidenced by his selection as an Employee of the Year; and

WHEREAS, as a staff photographer for the Virginia Tourism Corporation since 2004, Bill Crabtree took images of Virginians and visitors that captured the fun and family time that can be had throughout the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Bill Crabtree’s work graced the covers of the Virginia Tourism Corporation travel guides, reaching over a million people in various parts of the world and enticing them to come see firsthand the places he photographed; and

WHEREAS, with an eye for detail and composition, Bill Crabtree also spent his free time engaged in photography and shared his still-life work through exhibition at a local art gallery; and

WHEREAS, Bill Crabtree’s pride and joy was his beloved family, especially his son, Creed, whom he delighted in coaching as part of the Varina soccer team, Striker Big Feet; and

WHEREAS, Bill Crabtree gladly gave of his time and energy to encourage Varina youth in the pursuit of their interest, coaching them on to victory and serving as an outstanding role model; and

WHEREAS, a man of great character, Bill Crabtree will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Renee; son, Creed; parents, William and Laurie; former colleagues; many friends; and the youth he coached; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a talented public servant and dedicated community volunteer, William Stuart Crabtree, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Stuart Crabtree, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
