13100051DWHEREAS, the Reverend Robert Lee Burruss, Sr., an inspiring pastor who offered words of hope and encouragement to the congregation at Union Baptist Church in Ashland and served as a chaplain for the Ashland Police Department, died on November 4, 2011; and
WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith who was called to the ministry, Pastor Burruss earned a bachelor’s degree from Higher Bible Learning Institute, where he gained rich insight into the scriptures and a deepened knowledge of congregational care; and
WHEREAS, as an associate minister at Union Baptist Church, Pastor Burruss reached out to those in need in the church and community and helped individuals grow in faith during their own spiritual journeys; and
WHEREAS, a man of deep compassion and generous heart, Pastor Burruss provided comfort and pastoral care to members of the Ashland Police Department to aid them in the performance of their public safety duties; and
WHEREAS, a respected community leader, Pastor Burruss served as president of the Town of Ashland Clergy Association, liaison for Hanover County Public Schools, and member of the Town of Ashland Industrial Board; and
WHEREAS, a devoted husband and father, Robert Burruss will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Mary; children, Tonia, Julie, Robert, Jr., Lisa, Regina, Courtnee, and Joyce, and their families; numerous other family members and friends; and those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a beloved pastor and community leader, Reverend Robert Lee Burruss, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Reverend Robert Lee Burruss, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
