2012 SPECIAL SESSION I
12200036DWHEREAS, Lehman H. Young, Sr., a longtime business owner and resident of the City of Fairfax who witnessed the city’s growth and expansion over the course of his long and productive life, died on March 6, 2012; and
WHEREAS, born on January 24, 1916, Lehman Young was a member of Fairfax County High School’s first graduating class, returning to the school at its 75th anniversary football game to represent his graduating class’s decade; and
WHEREAS, Lehman Young began a career in printing in the seventh grade at a startup newspaper, learning how to fold papers and impressing a supervisor with his enthusiasm, who then taught him how to set type; and
WHEREAS, Lehman Young took his first professional job during the Great Depression at the Manassas Journal; he then worked for the Washington Post, and after buying his own printing press, did jobs on the side; and
WHEREAS, for over seven decades, Lehman Young ran his own business, Virginia Press, providing quality printing and outstanding service to his customers while staying abreast of changing technology; and
WHEREAS, a familiar face in the community, Lehman Young took an active role in civic affairs as a member of the local Rotary Club and 65-year member and post commander of American Legion Post 177; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife, Mary, Lehman Young will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children, Deborah, Pamela, Lehman, Jr., Carolyn, and Jennifer, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of the City of Fairfax, Lehman H. Young, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lehman H. Young, Sr., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for his memory.
