12200023DWHEREAS, Carlos F. Wilson, a familiar face at The Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach for more than 70 years who became affectionately known as Mr. Cavalier, Mr. Virginia Beach, and Mr. Hospitality for his amicable demeanor and hospitable manner, died on August 12, 2011; and
WHEREAS, a native of Accomack County, Carlos Wilson attended Princess Anne County schools and went to work for The Cavalier Hotel in 1938, embarking on a career at the historic hotel that spanned decades and lasted until the time of his passing; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Wilson upheld The Cavalier Hotel’s proud tradition of service as he washed dishes, cleared tables, maintained the grounds, waited on guests, worked as the food and beverage manager, and became director of guest services; and
WHEREAS, a humble and genuine man, Carlos Wilson welcomed vacationing families, individuals on business trips, movie stars, and royalty over the years, remembering names and treating everyone with respect and consideration; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Wilson earned numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding service, thrice winning Virginia’s Outstanding Older Worker Award from Green Thumb, Inc., now Experience Works, and being inducted into the Virginia Beach Hospitality Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Wilson nurtured his faith, which was evident in his actions with others, as a member of Union Baptist Church; he served in many different capacities, including as treasurer, trustee, and chair of the deacon board; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Wilson touched the lives of countless individuals over the course of his life, mentoring those in the hospitality industry, brightening someone’s day with kind words, and treasuring his friends and family; and
WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Carlos Wilson was predeceased by his wife, Annie, and daughter, Patricia, and will be greatly missed by his surviving daughter, Margie; grandchildren, Adrienna and Sonya; and great-grandson, Benjamin; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected Virginian, Carlos F. Wilson; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Carlos F. Wilson as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for his memory.
