2012 SPECIAL SESSION I
12200113DWHEREAS, Richmond Christian School, located in Chesterfield, proudly celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2011; and
WHEREAS, on September 4, 1951, Richmond Christian School opened its doors to 21 students at its Idlewood Avenue campus located off the Boulevard in the City of Richmond; and
WHEREAS, six years later, Richmond Christian School relocated to a Westwood Avenue location south of Byrd Park; at that time, the enrollment registration fee was $5 and the yearly tuition was $216; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Richmond Christian School continued to grow as it focused on providing students with a strong academic curriculum, athletic programs, and extracurricular activities in a Christian environment; and
WHEREAS, in 1976 Richmond Christian School became a ministry of Clover Hill Baptist Church with an enrollment of more than 100 students and eventually relocated to a new campus on Newby’s Bridge Road; and
WHEREAS, in 1979 Richmond Christian School proudly marked its first graduating class of nine seniors and the school continued to expand, eventually outgrowing the Newby’s Bridge Road campus; and
WHEREAS, in 1983 Clover Hill Baptist Church purchased the campus of the former Gill School on Belmont Road, where Richmond Christian School continues to reside; and
WHEREAS, in 2006 Richmond Christian School became an independent corporation and an educational foundation was established to help support the school’s endeavors; and
WHEREAS, for 60 years, Richmond Christian School has been blessed with outstanding leadership, dedicated teachers, supportive staff, and committed students and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Richmond Christian School hereby be commended on the occasion of its 60th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Richmond Christian School as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and appreciation for the school’s commitment to its students.
