Commending the Honorable Donald M. Haddock, Sr.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Donald M. Haddock, Sr., the chief judge of the Alexandria Circuit Court in the 18th Judicial Circuit of Virginia, retired after a distinguished 27-year career on the bench that included 14 years as chief judge; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Princeton University, Donald Haddock earned a bachelor of law degree from the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, and a master in laws degree from The George Washington University; he also proudly served his country in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, Donald Haddock began his legal career in private practice and also worked as a part-time Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney before opening his own practice, where he gained a reputation for his knowledge of the law and commitment to his clients; and

WHEREAS, during his service in the 18th Judicial Circuit, Judge Haddock earned the respect of his colleagues, those who worked in the court system, and those who came before him as he dispensed justice with great integrity, fairness, and compassion; and

WHEREAS, Judge Haddock served as the Virginia Delegate to the National Conference of State Trial Judges of the American Bar Association, as a member of the Boyd-Graves Conference, and as a state judicial leader for the National Judicial College; and

WHEREAS, committed to the well-being of the local community, Judge Haddock served as a board member for numerous civic, business, and charitable organizations, including the Alexandria Jaycees, local chamber of commerce, Alexandria Legal Aid Society, and Alexandria Bar Foundation; and

WHEREAS, a man of great integrity, Judge Haddock also served as an inspirational role model for young men as he volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, for nearly three decades on the bench, Judge Haddock presided with great wisdom and devotion to justice; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Honorable Donald M. Haddock, Sr., hereby be commended for his exemplary service on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable Donald M. Haddock, Sr., as an expression of the House of Delegates’ gratitude for his commitment to justice and public service.
