HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 612
Commending the Westfield High School boys' 4 x 800 relay team.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, May 14, 2012

 

WHEREAS, four boys—Max Chambers, Jeff Edmondson, Nathan Kiley, and Tyrone Walker—from Westfield High School in Fairfax County ran the fastest 4 x 800 relay in the nation at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 28, 2012, to become the first-ranked team in the United States, crossing the finish line with a time of 7 minutes, 39.73 seconds; and

WHEREAS, the boys from Westfield had never run at Penn Relays before Friday, when they clocked the fastest 4 x 800 time of the day (7:48.39) during the qualifying rounds, and then ran nine seconds better in the final; and

WHEREAS, the splits from all four members of the team were Max Chambers (1:57.6), Jeff Edmondson (1:56.4), Nathan Kiley (1:51.3), and Tyrone Walker (1:54.4); Nathan Kiley, who split 1:51.3 on the third leg, fastest of the day, made two powerful surges that got Westfield out of sixth place and into first; and

WHEREAS, Tyrone Walker, anchor, held on and finished the last leg, beating out all competitors, including international teams; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Westfield High School boys’ 4 x 800 relay team hereby be commended and congratulated on earning the fastest time in the United States at the Penn Relays; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Max Chambers, Jeff Edmondson, Nathan Kiley, and Tyrone Walker as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration and congratulations for their great achievement.
