Commending the Oyster Pointer.

WHEREAS, the Oyster Pointer, a free, monthly publication about business in the Oyster Point Business Park area of Newport News, will proudly celebrate 25 years of outstanding coverage of the people and places of Oyster Point in 2012; and

WHEREAS, in 1987 the Oyster Pointer’s first issue reported on Oyster Point Business Association activities and drew readers’ attention to the earthen mounds dotted across the undeveloped land in Oyster Point, which had served as munitions storage facilities during World War II; and

WHEREAS, as Oyster Point expanded and attracted new businesses, the Oyster Pointer grew in content and readership as well, developing a loyal following that has grown to 10,000 and a strong base of advertisers that have helped the publication to thrive; and

WHEREAS, committed to providing readers with insight, news, and stories about the leaders and businesses that help shape the area’s premier business park, the Oyster Pointer takes great pride in being a part of the Oyster Point business community; and

WHEREAS, as the Oyster Pointer looks back on its 25-year history, it will feature many of the same businesses that were found in the inaugural issue, including the Peninsula Data Service Center; Canon Virginia, Inc.; and The Lunch Bell; and

WHEREAS, the Oyster Pointer, distributed at area businesses and through subscriptions, looks forward to continuing to serve the Oyster Point area in the future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Oyster Pointer hereby be commended on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sylvia S. Weinstein, publisher, editor, and business manager of the Oyster Pointer, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for the publication’s contributions to the Oyster Point community.
