Celebrating the life of Gerald Michael Pace, Sr.

WHEREAS, Gerald Michael Pace, Sr., a respected businessman from Salem whose contributions to the community and local educational institutions touched the lives of countless individuals, died on April 18, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a native of Pulaski County, Gerald “Jerry” Pace graduated from Pulaski High School, where he met the love of his life, Jeanne, with whom he enjoyed 49 years of marriage; and

WHEREAS, a firm believer in the importance of education, Jerry Pace earned a bachelor’s degree from Hampden-Sydney College and embarked on a successful business career that spanned decades; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Pace realized the role that education could play in enriching the lives of local residents and enhancing the area’s economic development and devoted countless hours to expanding educational opportunities; and

WHEREAS, as a member of the Salem City School Board, Jerry Pace worked alongside other board members, educational leaders, and parents to continue the city’s tradition of providing a positive learning environment for students; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Pace provided wise counsel and insight as a board member of Virginia Intermont College and Virginia Western Community College Foundation; later in life, he joined educational efforts in the classroom as an adjunct professor at Virginia Western Community College; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Pace was instrumental in the establishment of the Community College Access Program, which has opened the doors to higher education and a brighter future for area high school graduates; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Pace also served on the Salem City Council and took an active role in civic and community affairs through involvement in various organizations; and

WHEREAS, a familiar face in the community known for his entertaining stories, Jerry Pace will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by many loving family members and friends and leaves behind a city that was changed for the better through his years of devoted service; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of an admired resident of Salem, Gerald Michael Pace, Sr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gerald Michael Pace, Sr., as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
