2012 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, Michael Earl Smith of Roanoke, the former executive director of a family service organization, an elder in his church, a devoted family man, and a friend to many people, passed away on November 29, 2011; and
WHEREAS, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Michael Smith had a strong faith that manifested itself in many ways; he is remembered for his wonderfully bright smile, his compassion, and his caring approach to all who came his way; and
WHEREAS, in his work as executive director of the YMCA Family Center, Michael Smith focused on serving all ages, providing a safe and nurturing environment in which children and their families could prosper and thrive; and
WHEREAS, Michael Smith was an elder at Garden of Prayer #7 Vision of Faith Ministries Inc., and in that role, he inspired many people to better themselves; he made a lasting impression on all who knew him, giving selflessly of his time and talents to church members and their families; and
WHEREAS, Michael Smith will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Roberta; his parents, Elder Jerry Smith, Sr., and Catherine Smith; his children and grandchildren; and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of an esteemed and devout man whose life centered around service to others, Michael Earl Smith; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Michael Earl Smith as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
