12200159DWHEREAS, Ed McCann, the longtime executive director of the Lynchburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority, has announced his retirement after 39 years of exemplary service; and
WHEREAS, a native of Long Island, New York, Ed McCann graduated from Lynchburg College and began his career in New York City, relocating back to Lynchburg to work as a renewal assistant for the Lynchburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority in 1972; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Ed McCann worked his way up the ranks, becoming deputy director in 1977 and executive director in 1999, while gaining valuable insight and experience and forging strong relationships with city leaders; and
WHEREAS, a visionary administrator, Ed McCann worked to ensure adequate housing for area residents, helping double the city’s public housing units and overseeing increased property redevelopment; and
WHEREAS, Ed McCann’s efforts resulted in numerous housing restorations and development initiatives to aid in the economic growth of the city, including the downtown Galleria and a new hotel; and
WHEREAS, committed to the well-being of the City of Lynchburg, Ed McCann also took part in such projects as the acquisition of the Blackwater Creek Natural Area and improvements along the expressway; and
WHEREAS, in 2003 Ed McCann directed the Lynchburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s relocation to a newly renovated building as he continued to work to ensure the sound management and operation of the organization; and
WHEREAS, Ed McCann has made many substantial and lasting contributions to the City of Lynchburg during his tenure and leaves behind an organization well-positioned to continue to provide superior service in the future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Ed McCann hereby be commended for his decades of distinguished service as executive director of the Lynchburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ed McCann as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for his commitment to the City of Lynchburg and its residents.
