Commending Potowmack Elementary School.

WHEREAS, Potowmack Elementary School celebrates 17 years of service to the families of Sterling in Loudoun County in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Potowmack Elementary School students thrive in a safe and nurturing learning environment that embraces high expectations for academic achievement, mutual respect, and personal responsibility for all students and where they are seen as a shining example of a hopeful future; and

WHEREAS, Potowmack Elementary School, under the leadership of Jennifer Rule, has always been proud of the variety of enrichment opportunities it offers to students; and

WHEREAS, Potowmack Elementary School offers students the opportunity to participate in the WordMasters Challenge Program, an optional enrichment program where students are given a list of words to explore prior to the scheduled WordMaster Challenge at school; and

WHEREAS, Potowmack Elementary School also offers a Math Superstars program where students complete worksheets with various types of mathematical problems in order to further their knowledge of mathematics and win prizes and incentives; and

WHEREAS, the art program at Potowmack Elementary School is a powerful tool for teaching children the value and impact of personal choice with many art lessons having multiple solutions from which to choose; the art room celebrates multiple perspectives, nurtures inventive thinking, and fosters growth; and

WHEREAS, through the art education program at Potowmack Elementary School, which has as its 2012 theme “Art Around the World,” students learn about art production, art history, and many ways of critically looking at and valuing artwork from different cultures; and

WHEREAS, Potowmack Elementary School recognizes today’s global society and offers an ELL, English Language Learners, program to students from other countries and cultures; and

WHEREAS, the ELL program assists students in developing competence in all areas of English language acquisition, while increasing awareness of the history and culture of classmates, Virginia, and the Unites States; and

WHEREAS, Potowmack Elementary School believes music is an integral part of a child’s education and students have the opportunity to sing, play a variety of instruments, listen to and analyze music, read and write music, and perform; and

WHEREAS, Potowmack Elementary School teachers and students also participate in a variety of community and international initiatives, such as Jeans Days, where teachers pay to wear jeans to school with all of the money benefiting Haitian relief, and National Poetry Month, with students’ poetry and prose writing included in the school’s Eagle Anthology; and

WHEREAS, one of Potowmack Elementary School’s students also won the Greater Washington Reading Council scavenger hunt, an event that promotes literacy and literacy education in Northern Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Potowmack Elementary School looks forward to continuing to provide its students with a quality education with outstanding leadership, dedicated teachers, and supportive staff and community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Potowmack Elementary School hereby be commended on the occasion of its 17th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jennifer Rule, principal of Potowmack Elementary School, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for the school’s commitment to its students.
